Former Boat Workshop, Old Portsmouth
Originally a mid-19th century boat workshop, this property has seen a number of changes to its facade over the years.
Our challenge was to bring the design up to date while balancing the requirement for a new roof terrace alongside replacement of the mansard roof, in a prominent conservation area location.
In a nod to the history of the site, larch cladding has been used on the replacement bays and window reveals and will weather to a beautiful silver grey. New German engineered aluminium windows and doors provide improved performance in the exposed seafront position and blend with the slate tile of the new mansard roof, while the new terrace’s frameless glass balustrade maximises sea views and minimises impact on the character of the frontage.
Together, these features achieve the contemporary design solution our client was looking for.
